THE AWARD GOES TO… OUTERNET LONDON!

Outernet London’s mixed use Now Building has won the Façade 2022 Design and Engineering Award in the category Innovation (UK). These prestigious awards are organised by the Society of Façade Engineers, co-located with Zak World of Conferences.

Outernet London’s The Now Building is an immersive entertainment space boasting the world’s largest high-resolution wrap-around screens and a futuristic live events venue to boost London’s live music scene. The building features a striking golden metal façade, consisting of extra-large format portal louvres that can both pivot and slide at the touch of a button - realized by FRENER & REIFER with the project team!

The following factors in combination makes this façade unique worldwide:

XXL format: the façade consists of a total of 24 movable, glazed stainless steel elements, each of which is over 10 metres high and weighs up to 3.6 tonnes.

Fully retractable façade: the louvres move and rotate both together and individually (in a sequence). 18 facade elements are both pivoted and sliding, 6 elements are pivoted only. They are actuated via an internal mechanical linkage and a specially developed large gearbox controlled by almost noiseless high-performance electric motors.

Colour and Material: the supporting steel frame and technical infrastructure are clad in 2 mm thick, titanium-coated stainless steel sheet. This gives the portals the desired golden shine.

Innovation at its best. We are very proud to have been part of it.
