IONA SKYDOME

IONA SKYDOME
A global first: a 970 m2 domed glass roof on a cruise ship

IONA is a new, sustainable luxury cruise ship from P&O Cruises (UK), powered by liquefied natural gas. Also new and exceptional is an event hall on the top deck of the ship, with a spectacular glass dome. The fully glazed hall will allow travellers to enjoy optimum views of the seascape at all times.

The 970 m² elliptical glass dome is 41 m long, 29 m wide and 4 m high and consists of 350 insulating glass panes.

FRENER & REIFER is responsible for the design-engineering, fabrication and installation of the glass dome. The know-how and experience gained from other complex special glass constructions has made a decisive contribution to the realisation of this demanding project.
